Natural versus ideal!

This evening, on one of the WhatsApp groups, there was this video which was both truly terrifying and yet somehow educative. It dealt with a snake, a cobra to be precise.

Actually, a snake, especially a cobra, is always somehow both very disgusting  and yet fascinating. Its coils, its zigzag movements somehow are recoiling. Yet its hood has a majesty of its own.

In the video, the cobra enters in to a life-n-death warfare with its sworn enemy, the 'secretary bird.' True to its name, this almost four feet tall bird has a very smart appearance.

In the video, it takes the cobra head on which lunges at its neck. The video vividly captures the spurt of the venom the cobra would have liked to inject, and which the bird adroitly avoids.

Next, the bird literally stomps the reptile under its heavy feet which, moreover, raise a dust storm. Most funnily, in its beak, it holds the serpent by the mouth, its venomous teeth and venom both thus sealed, and literally gulps it down!

I have seen on the same group a video of a cat making a snake literally slither away , badly wounded. Why am I writing about either at all? Aai hated snakes. She would make me switch off the t.v. or change the channel immediately if there was even a single scene involving a snake.

Why did I watch either of the video? Why am I discussing the disgusting video? I think such videos show you the cruelty in nature as it is. There is nothing uplifting in such shows, unlike the beautiful, sensitive, enriching video I mentioned yesterday, the video of the lion cub and the vet, and how they unconsciously help each other  overcome trauma.

Yet what the 'secretary bird' video shows is the brute reality one would meet 'normally', and most everywhere. If the cub video shows what reality should/might/must be, the 'secretary bird' or the cat fight video shows what reality brutally IS! Natural, 'normal', typical! Hence this write-up!

Pratima@The two videos, the cub one and the secretary bird or the cat one are in a way a metaphor of the human world, of human(e) relationships, too. The cub version of relationship is ideal. Such rare people, if/when you meet them by sheer luck, must be highly honoured.

Typical, however, would be the secretary bird or cat versions, dealing with dangerous denizens, vicious, poisonous, to be avoided at any cost, at least as much as possible!
