Let us discuss "Sairat" in this "In memoriam" series as it is now a decade old. When it was released on April 29, 2016, soon it literally created a cinematic cyclone. Yes, that is what its title means. In a dialect of Marathi used in the Solapur region, "Sairat" means wild, untamed, uncontrollable, almost feral. 

What is the 'wild' in the title that the film depicts? Sure it is a reference to the teenage love when hormones rule head n heart. In my opinion, however, it is the wildness, rampant in the society in various forms, that the film highlights. 

No wonder, the film got re-made in Kannada, Punjabi, Oriya and Hindi. The variation on the perennial Romeo-Juliet theme got a very Indian dimension in this film. In a way, such re-makes should prove both, the underlying civilisational/cultural unity of India, and the avoidable fault lines therein! 

As we analyse very many aspects of the film in our "Soupçon" series, all such issues will will be discussed by and by.
