Timepass

Timepass can be extremely creative. Of course, not eternally, nor forever! At times, now n then though, timepass is sheer energising. Want proof? Okay! Let me give you three examples.

The first one is looking for the "Amul ads". Absolute joy they are. The word play is fantastic. The contemporary insights are inspiring.

In my opinion, the "Common man" cartoons could have been the genesis of these lovely ads. Sometimes, hence, I look for these giants of genteel, gentle and yet grand critiques

Yet another favourite timepass is the "Denis, the Menace" cartoon strips. I have books of these. Absolutely insightful they are as they glorify the child-like vision which is a great commentary on the sillinesses of the adult wor(l)ds. Incidentally, the Marathi "Chintu" cartoons appear 'inspired' by dear Denis!

How about the Google doodles? Sure I do not like them as much as the others mentioned above. Yet they are interesting in their own way.

When we were growing up, one of my favourite most timepass activities was the "Test your word power" quizzes that each issue of the Reader's Digest would have. I am eternally grateful to Papa for subscribing to this wonderful magazine for us.

Till the multi-channel television burst on the Indian sight/site, this book size magazine was quite some source of world-wide vision. It was many disciplines rolled into one mag of some hundred pages. The language used to be accessible yet challenging.

Hence it was sad to read that this monthly mini-encyclopedia would no longer be published as the parent company finds the financial challenges of magazine publication impossible to handle. Indeed an era ends!

Pratima@ Well, one of the best timepass activities is flipping through family albums, right? I need neither explain nor comment, right?
