Just as the story appeared absolutely real, it was the casting which was the ace of the film experience. The lead pair in the film, Rinku Rajguru and Akash Thosar, were absolutely fresh faces. Their raw talent added hugely to the effect of the film.

In fact, except for a few famous faces, most all actors, Manjule himself included, were novices, be it Parshya's friends, the trio, poor like him, but with real rich hearts, or be it the other secondary characters, the distant observers of the drama unfolding in a small town. 

Such casting must have been a conscious choice on the director's part because no known, celebrated faces with pre-defined personas could have enhanced the tragic effect of the film. True, many may dismiss the lead pair as one film wonders. Yet none else could have possibly created that captivating charm, despite the lack of the filmy charisma. 

A good film, in brief, begins with the best casting. Countless examples of this truth universally acknowledged can be provided. Yet very few would be so very apt though.
